Goings On

Posted on April 16, 2008March 11, 2022 by romanagiulia

Finally moved away from crazy MOFO. The move was quite smooth; the guys showed up at 9:30 am (and I received a text message saying they were on their way…how cool is that?!). Packing was an international fest as two of the movers were Dominican and one was from Morocco, so I got to practice both my Spanish and my French. Voila!

Generally speaking, the move was uneventful (save for crazy MOFO’s ocd loop: unlock the door, open, close, lock; unlock, open, close, lock, rinse repeat). Oh and on of my friend iLaura’s (that would be Italian Laura, to differentiate her from Lawwa, that’s American Laura) bowls-yes, I still have them-broke. No big loss and I thought it was quite appropriate: an old bowl smashing in the old apartment? Out with old, in with the new!

I spent most of the rest of the week unpacking; there was a bit of a sense of urgency since my mom was coming to the city for some medical appointments and I wanted the apartment to look, um, well, you know….decent.

Mom’s week here was good, though I didn’t have as much time to spend with her as I had anticipated. I probably had one of the busiest weeks of the year. On the other hand, we did get to go out to dinner, went to see the Kirov ballet and I made risotto for my friends Adam and Careen.

Last Saturday, I got to go teach a workshop in lovely Ozone Park (less than 10 minutes away from JFK), so I am looking forward to a major sleep fest this Saturday!

Also, being offline for 10 days wasn’t as bad as I thought, though, what I missed the most was watching NY1 in the morning and getting my fix of Pat Kiernan’s In The Papers, as well as Roger Clark and his antics. I also haven’t been taking as many photos as I would like, but that will be corrected shortly (blogging as well).

In fun and exciting news, I’ve been reconnecting, thanks to the Facebook gods, with friends from elementary school (not to mention a few from high school as well)! I think that’s hilarious, though the fact that I haven’t seen these people in almost 30 years is a little frightening. You know, the passage of time and all that…

That’s all for now. Expect more posts to come, meditations, unconscious mutterings and the (drum roll please)……return of immaginary date!!
