Blogging

Posted on September 19, 2004March 9, 2022 by romanagiulia

I feel this incredible pressure, as I browse blogs, especially when I notice so much writing than in mine. Perhaps blogging is not for me. I feel compelled to write in this moment as much as any, perhaps out of boredom (not really), perhaps out of envy (maybe), perhaps because I feel the need to channel my thoughts somewhere other than on my plants. Poor things, I think they’re a little overwhelmed.

I know what you’re thinking. What, this woman has no friends? Indeed I do, but late at night is not usually the time to call and rant about the day I had. Maybe it is, and maybe that’s what friends are for, but I feel like this would be the place.

So, today I discovered many fascinating things about the voting process in the US and how each state has it’s own bill of voters’ rights. Having been born in Italy and having become a US citizen only recently, there are many elements of US politics that baffle me. I love the idea of unity among states (as opposed to division among regions in Italy) is wonderful AND the idea of separate “management” strategies in each of the 50 is also productive. But how can you explain such division when it comes to voting rights? For example, in Florida, if you have been a convicted fellon, served time and are fully rehabilitated (as per Shawshank Redemption dialogue) you cannot vote. Another, if you moved from your congressional district and live in Pennsylvania, for example, you may return to your “old” voting place. In New York, you cannot. Fascinating! Especially in light of the upcoming election.

I guess these are some of the things that make this country unique. Perhaps.
