It’s been a long time since I actually celebrated Halloween. The last time I went to a party was more than ten years ago, so when I got the invitation this year, well I thought it was high time to celebrate. After all, given the grim situation we all seem to be in, nothing beats it than to dress up. Plus, there’s something about the process into making a costume, that just tickles my creative bone.
Originally, I had planned to go as Lakshmi, a hindu goddess. Partly because I like something different than the usual scary monster theme (ie zombies, Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney), partly because the guy I was going with dressed up as The Love Guru and that seemed to give it some sort of symmetry.
But alas, the time frame was too tight and what I had at home wasn’t enough to put it together. So, given that I still had a flapper dress, I decided to go as 1920s diva. White arm-length gloves, smokey eyes, feather boa and I was good to go. Except…my shoes. I found this pair of strappy sandals, gorgeous, I might add, but by the end of the evening, with the dancing and the walking and the dancing and the salsa…well, the weekend is almost over, but darn it, the balls of my feet feel like rocks!
The party was on a boat and we got to see Manhattan from afar, go under the Brooklyn Bridge and see the Statue of Liberty. We howled together with pirates, a few monks of the Inquisition, several skanky looking ladies (I really dunno what their costumes were about!), a few Dark Knights, and one Obama. It was better than I could have asked for and though our costumes didn’t have room for cameras, it will be one memorable evening just the same.
Hope y’all enjoyed yours as well!

I’m glad you had a good time.
We did too. Took the boys out Trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. It was Samuel’s first Halloween and he was clueless, of course, but he had a good time in his stroller. Walter celebrated his third Halloween like an old pro, but he was a little leery of some of the houses. He had a blast, however and cleaned up in the candy department.

Nelson Webbers last blog post..Ha ha ha!
nelson: I saw the pics. They were fantastic! But what luck Sam had…to be pushed around in a stroller without the “I must have candy” angst!
